Gaming can have several positive outcomes on your life, think of them as achievements! Gaming can help improve reaction time, problem-solving, communication skills, and perseverance. However, too much gaming can lead to unintended consequences, such as declining aspects of your health. Here’s a quick list of common health issues among gamers and some ways to be proactive – so you can stay on top of your game of life.

Posture

Sitting for long periods of time can lead to poor posture and an increased risk of back pain.

    • Tip: Invest in an ergonomic chair and avoid sitting for too long. Use the “BRB” and get some healthy movement and stretching anytime you can.

Eyes

Staring at screens can cause eye strain, thanks to the negative effects of blue light.

  • Tip: Use blue light filtering glasses or screen protectors to help reduce eye strain. You can also try an eye health supplement. For gamers, products containing lutein are the GOAT.

Wrists

One of the most well-known health consequences of playing video games is the risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition occurs when the median nerve, which runs through the wrist, becomes compressed, leading to numbness and weakness in the hand and fingers. Healthy hands help boost your battling techniques!

  • Tip: Warm up your wrists and hands before gaming. Do some simple stretches for your wrist and forearm during and after your gaming.

Sleep

Playing video games doesn’t always support healthy sleeping habits, which can lead to a host of health problems. Bright screens and stimulating content of video games can interfere with the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle, making it difficult to fall asleep at night.

  • Tip: Practice good sleep hygiene! Establish a wind-down routine and cut off screen time 30-60 minutes before bedtime.

Stress

Finally, playing video games can have a negative impact on mental health.

  • Tip: Stay connected with friends and family and maintain relationships. If you’re looking for something to help you relax, try a stress support supplement (the amino acid theanine works wonders!).
