As a doctor and a surgeon, I frequently meet with patients who suffer from joint issues. During our conversations, I’m usually asked the question, “Why does my back/knee/hip hurt?”
No matter which joint is experiencing discomfort, my answer is often the same: it’s because you aren’t treating them right. The truth is, our joints need particular care in order for them to last a lifetime.
Fortunately, for the majority of joint related problems surgery is not the only solution. Listed here are some of the best tips I’ve found for joint health.

Have Good Posture & Remember To Stretch.
If your type of work requires you to sit and type for long periods at a time, proper posture, arm and hand placement are a must. For those who lift frequently at home or at work, improved body mechanics and regular stretching could help with joint discomfort.
Don’t Push Your Joints Too Far.
Unlike muscle tissue, joints may be more sensitive when used frequently. When it comes to certain exercises, more is not necessarily better for your health. In fact, a recent study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology reported that even running less than six miles per week can be beneficial to your long-term health! Whether you like to run, lift or dance, don’t push yourself and get your rest days in for proper recovery.
Eat A Balanced Diet.
Every extra pound you gain puts four times the stress on your knees. Eating a balanced diet won’t just take the pressure off of your joints, it will also help you properly support the bones and muscles that surround them. Your diet should include adequate protein for your muscles, and vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, K12 and D3 for bones.
Find The Right Supplements.
If you’re experiencing discomfort, consider a joint health supplement that contains glucosamine and chondroitin to support joint tissue, function, health and integrity. Also, fish oils are a great source of EPA & DHA which support your joint health.
We rarely think about our joints until they’re making us uncomfortable. Be proactive—treat your joints right and they’ll treat you right!
