What is Telehealth?

Telemedicine and telehealth are often used interchangeably and are a type of healthcare where your provider or healthcare practitioner provides you with care without requiring you to come physically to the office. Telehealth can occur via phone call, video chat, text messaging, or email. Telehealth may include remote monitoring, like a heart rate or continuous blood glucose monitor.
Telehealth adoption increased dramatically in 2020 as the pandemic made in-person interaction difficult and sometimes impossible. Though the growth has slowed as the grip of the pandemic has lessened, this care delivery method is here to stay. Thought house calls from your doctor were a thing of the past? Not with telehealth! Telehealth allows you access to a great doctor without leaving the comfort of your home.

What Conditions Can Be Treated via Telehealth?

Every visit and health concern are different, but telehealth can be appropriate for the management of both acute and chronic issues. Some of the most common conditions addressed via telehealth include upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, low-back pain, dermatologic concerns, and chronic disease management. GNC Health’s Virtual Urgent Care can also be used to diagnose and treat conditions like pink eye, diarrhea, earache, eczema, headache, nausea/vomiting, and more. The GNC Health Plus and Premier Exclusive plans provide access to care for other ongoing conditions like acid reflux, asthma, anxiety, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, etc. Click here to learn more about how GNC Health can help you live well.

What Are Some Things I Should Know To Get The Most Out of a Telehealth Visit?

Your provider may need several pieces of information to make your telehealth visit most productive. Some of these include:

  • Your height and weight
  • A good description of the symptoms you’ve been experiencing
  • A good knowledge of your medical history (like other conditions you may be managing with another provider)
  • Any known allergies to food or drugs
  • Images of any pertinent issue (like a skin infection, for example). Images are not always necessary but may be helpful in some instances.
